Hello! I loved the idea of this comm, so I combed my favourites for great female-character-centric fics.

Fandom: Harry Potter
  • Ginny-centric fics, more or less categorized because I’m obsessive that way XD. I hope you don’t mind all of these are Harry/Ginny, since it’s my OTP (and most of what I read XD). All One-shots unless stated.
Two really old fics that stay amazing )

Two angsty ficlets )

Two adventure/mystery fics )

Three humour/crack fics (I'm not responsible of) )

Four DH Missing Moments (chronologically because see above) )

  • Fics about other HP female characters:
McGonagall fic and Hedwig fic )

Other fandoms:
  • Harry Potter/Discworld crossover
Professional duties by [livejournal.com profile] owlyscribblings | PG
Susan Sto Helit has a job to do. [Susan, McGonagall, Harry]
Characters: Susan, McGonagall, Harry [genfic]
Genre: Jossed AU, drama
Rec: Short and awesome. Also slightly Jossed.
  • Danny Phantom
Girl Power by Nylah-Fae | PG
"She kept expecting him to walk right in, smiling that goofy smile of his, act like nothing happened, like he hadn't scared her witless with his disappearing act."

Characters: Sam Manson, Valerie Gray
Ship: Danny/Sam
Genre: action/adventure
Rec: Written as a companion to a fanart that’s no longer there, an action and adventure fic with a side of character study and some intriguing concepts.
  • Spider-Man (movie!verse)
Just a Face On a Train by katheryne | PG
After rescuing a train from Doc Ock's attack, Peter Parker found himself unmasked and indebted to those he had just saved. 4 months later, a train passenger again crosses paths with the young hero. Based on events from SpiderMan 2.

Characters: OC, Peter Parker [genfic]
Length: 5 chapters, complete
Genre: character study, adventure
Rec: This is a remarkable story in that the main character is an OFC, one of the passengers on the train Spider-man saved. A wonderful outsider-POV look at Peter, and proof that OC stories don’t mean Mary Sue.

A general listing of my female-centric fic for the past year (by fandom):

DC COMICS
beauty in the breakdown -- He's very clear when they first meet: "Someday I'm going to break your heart." Later, Zatanna Zatara discovers that when he's right, John Constantine is right.

Façade -- No matter which of the faces Batman wears, they still manage to gel together. And it's almost enough for Zatanna. Almost.

stop to check you out -- Zatanna Zatara and John Constantine talk. While stoned. Need I say more?

FIREFLY/SERENITY
never as it seems -- A rough interpretation of the events of the Star Trek film filtered through River Tam's eyes.

What Remains -- Zoe finds River in Serenity's cockpit. As always, there's more going on than meets the eye.

HARRY POTTER
Noble in Reason -- As Oscar Wilde said, "Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy know this better than most.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED
don't sound like no sonnet -- Wonder Woman and Batman have a talk while he's recovering from that whole Doomsday mission thing. As always, more is said than the words they exchange.

MARVEL COMICS
always vulgar and often convincing -- Dani Moonstar happens upon Sam Guthrie watching some questionable television late one night.

in a sense gone -- Sam Guthrie wants to know why Dani Moonstar's been copping an attitude with him and she's not talking-- not willingly, anyway.

it will do thee no good -- In which Illyana Rasputin is naughty and Kitty Pryde tries to scold her, then things devolve into a pillow fight.

let go and know -- After her chat with the Beast, Molly Hayes decides to visit the X-Men in NorCal about the whole extinction thing. First, though, she foils Sebastian Shaw's escape attempt and semi-rescues Wolverine.

Sweet Content -- For Dani Moonstar, there's nothing like sharing a porch swing with a beer and a good friend.

NCIS
A Place Called Perfect -- Abby Sciuto and Tim McGee walk Jethro the dog. They have a reversal of roles as she talks about the future and he tries not to think about it.

Continuing Ziva's Cultural Education -- "Lesson #174: The Knock-Knock Joke"

What's Past is Prologue -- A series of unscenes (or unseen/missing scenes) between Tim McGee and Abby Sciuto over the course of Season Seven. (Find it via AO3 or at ff.net)

NIKITA
A Wise Fool -- Short piece about the lines we draw, how they blur and what reality really is... or isn't.

STAR TREK XI
a doer a wooer -- Leonard McCoy runs into Christine Chapel during an overnight hospital shift and they chat. (Well, more like exchange witty repartee and make interesting expressions at each other, while communicating surprisingly well.)

a matter of time -- When Janice Rand was assigned as yeoman to James T. Kirk, she knew he'd be trouble for her. A case of (mostly) one-sided Kirk/Rand.

another day, another daring rescue -- Five times Janice Rand rescued Jim Kirk and one time she didn't need to.

better days then this -- The Enterprise makes official first contact with Angel I. Uhura leads the away team; things go well, then they don't.

Cosmic Jokes, Karmic Retribution and Other Excuses for Life's Little Ironies -- Christine Chapel does not like hostile work environments or Leonard McCoy, and she's not shy about letting people know about it, especially her family. Featuring assorted female cousins and siblings.

Freedom's Reign -- Gaila came to Starfleet Academy for freedom, just not the kind most expect.

Hell of a Woman -- Leonard McCoy was fine with the way he was: damaged and bitter and determined to stay that way. Then he met Christine Chapel.

her honor bright -- Uhura stands up for what she believes in. Unfortunately, at sixteen, all it gets her is in trouble. Thankfully her grandmother provides some perspective.

if you miss, you may hit a star -- Christine Chapel isn't quite sure what it means to be a nurse in Starfleet but she thinks maybe an elective piloting course will help her figure it out.

leave your things behind -- Elizabeth Dehner has always had a plan. Then Vulcan is destroyed and things aren't so simple anymore.

Prelude -- The infamous alien known as Q meets the intrepid explorers of the Enterprise. It's just not the Enterprise he generally frequents... and his interest isn't in the Captain, either, but in his Yeoman.

Salt, Sweat, Sugar -- [WWII AU] Christine Chapel thought she knew where her life was going, then war broke out and she met a man named Leonard McCoy and things weren't that straightforward anymore.

something more than nothing: 1 | 2 | 3 -- Three part short story in which Christine Chapel and Leonard McCoy deal with the something more than nothing between them.

time to realize -- Five times Jim Kirk (belatedly) realized something (somewhat obvious) about Janice Rand and one time she proved what he'd always known.

THAT '70s SHOW
Lightning Strike -- Jackie Burkhart knows it'd be stupid to fall for Steven Hyde. Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

X-MEN MOVIES
A Contest Most Fierce -- Lorna Dane shows Dani Moonstar that there's more to be done with watermelons than simply eating them.

on a stormy afternoon -- A thunderstorm makes Illyana Rasputin wonder what would happen if Jeb Guthrie was hit by lightning and then uses her wiles to try and get him to find out.

X-MEN: EVOLUTION
the lady doth protest too much, methinks -- Rogue deals with the Awesome Pain of hating Gambit. (Because she doesn't like him, okay?)

watch me burn -- Destiny comes for Jean Grey in the form of the Phoenix. (or, how one of Charles Xavier's premonitions comes true)

 First off:

A picspam of the ladies of Nikita (2010 CW) and reasons you should watch it, all related to the female relationships and plotlines, on LJ and DW

And I guess I might as well link to my female-centric fanfic and vids. :P

Fic:

The Things We Say Are True, Sky High (2005), Penny/Gwen, femslash, 1200 words. A Yuletide fic.

How Do They Rise Up, Harry Potter, Hermione & Padma, gen, 3500 words. (Yes, I got English university horribly wrong. I have yet to get around to fixing that, but will some day.)

The Mary Blake Series, Twilight, Renesmee (eventually Renesmee/Leah), gen to femslash, 3600 words. This is the series of four stories in which I explored the character of Renesmee and how she could reclaim herself from a canon I thought didn't know what to do with her.

lovely in my sight, Narnia, Susan Pevensie, gen, 900 words. A Susan character study. Plus all my other Susan pieces, because I write her... a lot.

Whose Other Side Is Salvation, Narnia/Doctor Who, Susan Pevensie/The Doctor, Edmund Pevensie, het, 2500 words. Primarily Susan focused, as she journeys with the Doctor.

Here's A Girl From A Dangerous Town, Torchwood, Lucia Moretti, het, 1500 words. A woman who fell in love with Jack and then lived to a fairly natural age? She's got to be impressive.

no stamps required, Narnia/Supernatural, Susan Pevensie/Anna Milton, gen, 400 words. Anna and Susan, OTP of practicality and living through sorrow.

another path to carry her burdens, Supernatural, OFC, gen, 300 words. The dead angel in 4x16 had a vessel, and her vessel had a sister.

Vids:

In Some Dreaming State, Narnia, Susan Pevensie. No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world. To "Blinding" by Florence and the Machine.

Wild Child, Doctor Who, Amy Pond. You don't need a reason, let the day go on and on. To "Wild Child" by Enya.

Great to see so much being posted here! I've written a few stories focusing on female characters in the Harry Potter series:

Lily Evans/Potter: Touch the Face of the Stars, 7,000 words, rated PG-13 with a warning for character death. Summary: Lily tries to work out what is worth living - or dying - for. This story inevitably contains some Lily/James, but it is essentially gen.

Petunia Evans/Dursley: The Exiles, 7,750 words, rated R with a warning for infidelity. Pairings: Petunia/Charlie, Petunia/Vernon. Summary: Six months into her exile in the wizarding world, Petunia meets someone who forces her to examine both herself and her relationship with her husband.

Alice Longbottom: Bright Unconquered Suns, 5,000 words, rated R for one very understated sex scene. Summary: As the dust settles after Hallowe'en 1981, Alice and Frank return to work, where they are given an unpleasant mission. Meanwhile, Alice is haunted by the fates of Lily, James and Harry.

Augusta Longbottom: The Dying of the Light, 4,000 words, rated PG-13 with a warning for upsetting issues such as memory loss. Summary: Augusta and Neville adjust to life after the attack on Frank and Alice. The ending of this is now jossed by canon.

Nymphadora Tonks: Afterthoughts, 1,000 words, rated R for sexual references and language. Summary: Post Deathly Hallows, Tonks gets a few things off her chest.

There are plenty of other stories that focus on the female characters, too, but I don't want to spam. :) Check the tags at [livejournal.com profile] squishedstories if you're interested.

I'd also like to recommend a Ginny genfic: We Are Tired Of Your Discipline by [livejournal.com profile] tosca1390. 2,240 words, rated PG-13. Summary: The feeling that she’d either kill or be killed at Hogwarts this year hadn’t left her all summer.
