Title: Phases
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Character: Willow Rosenberg
Prompt: Day 6 - The Moon
Rating: G
Word Count: 202
Summary: The moon wasn't something she really thought about, until she had to
Willow had learned the phases of the moon in fourth grade science. New moon, crescent, half moon, full moon, gibbous, waxing and waning. She found it somewhat interesting but there were other aspects of science, even other aspects of astronomy that she was more drawn to. She didn't go out much in the evenings instead preferring to stay home and study and when she did, she was usually focused on whatever she was doing or where she was going and her eyes didn't stray to the sky.
In high school, knowing the phases of the moon meant something else entirely. It was a way to stay connected to the boy she loved. In just a few cycles, she knew when he was most comfortable and when he'd start to force distance between them. She was in a love-hate relationship with an object almost a quarter of a million miles away. She wished it wasn't there and that it didn't wield this influence over her life.
It took many years and more than a few changes of scenery until she could gaze up at the moon in whatever phase it was in- whether waning or waxing, half, or full- and call it beautiful.
