This isn't a new fic. I finished it last year (and started it years before that), but it's a favorite. It has a plot and everything. The story is all from Diana's point of view and like most of my writing is a mix of drama and comedy.

summary: Casefic with smut (M/F). Post-series story dealing with the aftermath of the promicin outbreak and what it's like in a city where nearly everyone has an ability. Meanwhile, with their separate love lives imploding, Marco and Diana decide to join forces in some personal sex research (for science).

I did my best to make this story accessible to someone who wasn't familiar with the series, but I'm probably not the best judge of whether I was successful or not.

If you never saw The 4400, it was about people (4,400 of them specifically) who had vanished at various points in the last few decades and then all simultaneously returned without having aged a day. Spoiler: it wasn't aliens after all; it was meddling time travelers. (Though we only get glimpses as the character struggle to figure out what happened, the future has apparently devolved into class-warfare and at least two rival factions are trying to alter the timeline for their benefit.) The "Returnees" slowly begin to develop "abilities" (superpowers). Every single ability is unique; no two people were ever shown to have the exact same ability so there were some really interesting twists on the show. In the series finale, a "promicin" outbreak spreads this to the general population of Seattle (unofficially renamed "Promise City" by one group) in the form of a contagion, which kills half the people infected but grants powers to the other half. The final shots of the series were of established characters being startled to discover what their new unique abilities were.
