Both of these feature women leading rescue missions for their captain, both in roughly the same scenario. One focuses on Uhura, and the other is about Number One, who was going to be the first officer in the original Star Trek before the network decided they couldn't stomach women in charge.

Title: Command Decisions
Author: igrockspock
Characters: Uhura, McCoy, Kirk
Summary: Uhura didn't sign on to be a soldier or a killer. That's not going to stop her from getting her captain back.
Rating: PG-13 for violence

She still didn't know how to look at a dead body and congratulate herself on a job well done.

Title: Invictus
Author: igrockspock
Characters: Pike, Number One
Rating: PG
Summary: She'd let him die to save his crew. Just not today.

One lifts her head and peers cautiously over the rocky opening of the cave. The bodies of six soldiers are strewn across the sand, each with a neat black hole on the left side of their chests.

Femininity can be whatever a woman decides it is! I love it when Buffy puts on her pretty prom dress and goes to slay vampires and take names. But sometimes, we make non-standard fashion choices, and sometimes, non-standard means "boys' clothes." Here's a picspam celebrating just a few of those choices.

Eowyn, Mulan, Elizabeth Swann, Natty Gann, Idgie Threadgoode, Mademoiselle Amy Jolly, Annie Hall, Romana II, and Ace McShane )

Relatedly, this vid was recced on [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon last year, and I still love it: I'm Your Man: A Celebration of Media Cliches by [livejournal.com profile] charmax

This is a short guide to some of the vids and approaches out there for fans looking to dip their toe into feminist vidding, with a little annotation. Some of these are "classics," some of these are slightly less well-known, but I think they're all worth looking at. (Also, depending, cool/sexy/exciting/heartbreaking...)

Note: This is a brief list drawing from a large pool of candidates, and omission from it is not meant to imply anything about quality (or ideology!). Others would make different lists, use different definitions of feminism, and even read these vids differently. Additions and criticisms are invited.

Okay, I just discovered this comm (through a rec from [livejournal.com profile] stunt_muppet), and I think it is a wonderful thing!

I apparently don't actually write women that much, but I do have three short pieces that I suspect are relevant to this comm's interests. (And I may have ideas for a couple more before submissions close... *makes thinky face*)

A strong, complex, intriguing Disney female character and she is not a princess! Yes, she is a cat, but in my opinion one of the best female characters out of Disney's recent out put (I can't comment on the Princess and the Frog yet because if they ever had a single worldwide release date Disney would end up exploding or something. Damn you Disney!). From surviving on the New York streets with only bluff and wits, to getting dragged across America by a delusional dog, Mittens shows off her resourcefulness and dry, sarcastic humour.

So, for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, I present a Mittens picspam!
