As I've never participated in [community profile] halfamoon before, this fic roundup is all of the women-centric fic I've written that I'm willing to link ;-). All in alphabetical order, and I hope you enjoy! :D

(Some have warnings and notes, so take care)

22 fics; 24, Harry Potter, JC's Avatar, MCU, Resident Evil Movies, Star Trek Reboot, X-Men: First Class )

[MODS: am unable to tag all my fandoms, as they don't have tags]
[identity profile] hellokatzchen.livejournal.com
A general listing of my female-centric fic for the past year (by fandom):

DC COMICS
beauty in the breakdown -- He's very clear when they first meet: "Someday I'm going to break your heart." Later, Zatanna Zatara discovers that when he's right, John Constantine is right.

Façade -- No matter which of the faces Batman wears, they still manage to gel together. And it's almost enough for Zatanna. Almost.

stop to check you out -- Zatanna Zatara and John Constantine talk. While stoned. Need I say more?

FIREFLY/SERENITY
never as it seems -- A rough interpretation of the events of the Star Trek film filtered through River Tam's eyes.

What Remains -- Zoe finds River in Serenity's cockpit. As always, there's more going on than meets the eye.

HARRY POTTER
Noble in Reason -- As Oscar Wilde said, "Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy know this better than most.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED
don't sound like no sonnet -- Wonder Woman and Batman have a talk while he's recovering from that whole Doomsday mission thing. As always, more is said than the words they exchange.

MARVEL COMICS
always vulgar and often convincing -- Dani Moonstar happens upon Sam Guthrie watching some questionable television late one night.

in a sense gone -- Sam Guthrie wants to know why Dani Moonstar's been copping an attitude with him and she's not talking-- not willingly, anyway.

it will do thee no good -- In which Illyana Rasputin is naughty and Kitty Pryde tries to scold her, then things devolve into a pillow fight.

let go and know -- After her chat with the Beast, Molly Hayes decides to visit the X-Men in NorCal about the whole extinction thing. First, though, she foils Sebastian Shaw's escape attempt and semi-rescues Wolverine.

Sweet Content -- For Dani Moonstar, there's nothing like sharing a porch swing with a beer and a good friend.

NCIS
A Place Called Perfect -- Abby Sciuto and Tim McGee walk Jethro the dog. They have a reversal of roles as she talks about the future and he tries not to think about it.

Continuing Ziva's Cultural Education -- "Lesson #174: The Knock-Knock Joke"

What's Past is Prologue -- A series of unscenes (or unseen/missing scenes) between Tim McGee and Abby Sciuto over the course of Season Seven. (Find it via AO3 or at ff.net)

NIKITA
A Wise Fool -- Short piece about the lines we draw, how they blur and what reality really is... or isn't.

STAR TREK XI
a doer a wooer -- Leonard McCoy runs into Christine Chapel during an overnight hospital shift and they chat. (Well, more like exchange witty repartee and make interesting expressions at each other, while communicating surprisingly well.)

a matter of time -- When Janice Rand was assigned as yeoman to James T. Kirk, she knew he'd be trouble for her. A case of (mostly) one-sided Kirk/Rand.

another day, another daring rescue -- Five times Janice Rand rescued Jim Kirk and one time she didn't need to.

better days then this -- The Enterprise makes official first contact with Angel I. Uhura leads the away team; things go well, then they don't.

Cosmic Jokes, Karmic Retribution and Other Excuses for Life's Little Ironies -- Christine Chapel does not like hostile work environments or Leonard McCoy, and she's not shy about letting people know about it, especially her family. Featuring assorted female cousins and siblings.

Freedom's Reign -- Gaila came to Starfleet Academy for freedom, just not the kind most expect.

Hell of a Woman -- Leonard McCoy was fine with the way he was: damaged and bitter and determined to stay that way. Then he met Christine Chapel.

her honor bright -- Uhura stands up for what she believes in. Unfortunately, at sixteen, all it gets her is in trouble. Thankfully her grandmother provides some perspective.

if you miss, you may hit a star -- Christine Chapel isn't quite sure what it means to be a nurse in Starfleet but she thinks maybe an elective piloting course will help her figure it out.

leave your things behind -- Elizabeth Dehner has always had a plan. Then Vulcan is destroyed and things aren't so simple anymore.

Prelude -- The infamous alien known as Q meets the intrepid explorers of the Enterprise. It's just not the Enterprise he generally frequents... and his interest isn't in the Captain, either, but in his Yeoman.

Salt, Sweat, Sugar -- [WWII AU] Christine Chapel thought she knew where her life was going, then war broke out and she met a man named Leonard McCoy and things weren't that straightforward anymore.

something more than nothing: 1 | 2 | 3 -- Three part short story in which Christine Chapel and Leonard McCoy deal with the something more than nothing between them.

time to realize -- Five times Jim Kirk (belatedly) realized something (somewhat obvious) about Janice Rand and one time she proved what he'd always known.

THAT '70s SHOW
Lightning Strike -- Jackie Burkhart knows it'd be stupid to fall for Steven Hyde. Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

X-MEN MOVIES
A Contest Most Fierce -- Lorna Dane shows Dani Moonstar that there's more to be done with watermelons than simply eating them.

on a stormy afternoon -- A thunderstorm makes Illyana Rasputin wonder what would happen if Jeb Guthrie was hit by lightning and then uses her wiles to try and get him to find out.

X-MEN: EVOLUTION
the lady doth protest too much, methinks -- Rogue deals with the Awesome Pain of hating Gambit. (Because she doesn't like him, okay?)

watch me burn -- Destiny comes for Jean Grey in the form of the Phoenix. (or, how one of Charles Xavier's premonitions comes true)

Okay, it's time to face the fact that I will not have time to finish anything new for this challenge, it being tax season and all. So, as an excuse to share a batch of reruns, I've converted them into downloadable ePub files. (Don't worry if you don't actually have an eReader, that's just the excuse. The titles link to good old-fashioned html.)

  • Blindsided (Buffyverse, Faith Lehane) A short character piece with Faith and Robin Wood. (ebook)

  • Inside Job (Roswell, Isabel Evans) A plotty exploration of personal identity. (ebook)

  • Institutionalized (Star Trek Voyager, Kathryn Janeway) Angst in the original sense of the word. Please note the trigger warnings. (ebook)

  • Jaunt to Paradise (Stargate SG-1, Sam Carter) A fun action piece. (ebook)

  • Kite String (Buffyverse, Kennedy) A canon-friendly retelling of season seven, from Kennedy's perspective. (ebook)

  • No Place Like Home (Stargate SG-1, Vala Mal Doran) Humor, angst, action -- it's Vala. The first section is from Daniel's POV, but it's very much Vala's story. (ebook)

  • Outside the Crystal (Merlin BBC, Gwen) A series two fix-it for Gwen/Morgana fans. (ebook)

  • Thirty Six Hours (Star Trek Voyager, Kathryn Janeway) Non-stop action with a Kathryn Janeway who definitely trains against Klingons on the holodeck. (ebook)

  • The Verse That Was (Firefly, Inara Serra) A caper fic featuring Inara. (ebook)

  • When the Gloves Come Off (X-Men Movieverse, Rogue) Another plotty exploration of personal identity. (ebook)

And if anyone finds it more convenient, you can download the whole set of eBooks in a single zip file here.

(If any links break, please let me know, I've been having issues with my server recently.)

Available Chapters: One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight

Fandom: X-Men Movieverse (X1-3, XMO:W)
Characters: Rogue(Marie D'Ancanto) + cast of dozens
Rating: Mature (Samuel L Jackson-level strong language)
Summary: Drugs. Multi-state gangs. Mutant-killing virus. Civil unrest. Plot to assassinate a racist senator. Just another Tuesday for Marie D'Ancanto, NYPD detective in the country's first Mutant Crimes Task Force.
Disclaimer: All the characters you can recognize belong to Marvel Entertainment. The movieverse versions also belong to Fox, Brian Singer, David Hayter, Zak Penn, Bret Ratner *cough*,Gavin Hood, David Benioff & Skip Woods. The pictures aren't mine either; they're gacked from Anna Paquin Online and various Google searches.
Author's Notes: This was supposed to be for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon 2010. My prompt was #117: Wherever fate demands me...I will go. -- Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda y Arteaga (1814-1873), 19th-century Cuban author. To the moderator, [livejournal.com profile] gehayi, I regret very much not being able to meet the deadline for this ficathon because it's one of the best things out there. It's possibly my favourite ficathon. Even though I didn't overtly use my prompt, it did affect the whole story. Heck, it's the whole reason why this story is half a year late & 40,000 words over the original outline. A frillion also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lithiumlaughter who beta'd this monstrosity not only for (very many) spelling & punctuation errors but also for plot holes, dangling subplots and accurate characterisation. And she did this THREE TIMES. Percy, you are awesome.

Thank you everyone for all the lovely fics which I will devour ASAP. For my meagre contribution, here are the female-centric fics that I've written in DC & Marvel universes.

I love stories about supporting characters and guest stars, and I'd love it if people wanted to rec me some more in the comments. Here are some older favorites of mine:

recs for Angel, Buffy, Farscape, Star Trek, X-Men )
[identity profile] ladymordecai.livejournal.com

[profile] hossgal gave me the idea by posting a list of her recs for SFF books that are largely female-centric or feature strong female characters.  Being a comic book person myself (in addition to books!), I thought I'd go with imitation being the most sincere form of flattery and do a post listing the comic titles I read at least partially because of their female characters.

Due to my own inclinations, much of this will be in the superhero genre, but not quite all.  Please feel free to add more to the list in the comments, either here or at my own journal!

Trouncing alien invaders, venturing Underhill and just plain being cool

I'm a mod of [livejournal.com profile] idol_reflection, a multifandom community for meta essays about characters people like and want to introduce to other fans. Behind the cut, links to 31 essays posted there about female characters in 14 fandoms, many including fanfic recs and links to character-centric communities:

lots and lots of shiny here )

Also, if you'd be interested in sharing your love for a favorite character, feel free to check out the claims list and consider writing an essay of your own; we've got far fewer essays about female characters than male characters, and I'd love to see more women represented. (Anybody for Teyla? Ginny Weasley? Barbara Gordon? Laura Roslin? Martha Jones? All currently up for grabs.)
