(and the Women Behind Them)

WARNING! Image heavy! Longwinded and self-indulgent commentary!
Let's start with Uhura as played by Nichelle Nichols. She's ICONIC. Really. I think it's something about the eyes.

see what did I say? Those are pretty neat earrings. Oh and the thing in her hand isn't a butterfly, it's her

These are the first earrings we see her in. I love em! they're green! They really stand out too. There's like no other green in the show.

Err... I'm sort of sorry for including this shot? But it just proves how much of a ground-breaking (if underrated & underused) character Uhura was. She managed to reveal herself without really revealing anything (this would occur again latter in one of the movies). She also participated in one of the earliest televised interracial kisses. Thanks for sticking with the show Nichelle!
While looking for images for this post I discovered that Uhura made the front cover of the January 1967 issue of Ebony. What a cool shot!

Qucik side note: the images of Zoe's Uhura just don't have the same umph. I am reserving judgement though :)
Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Arguably she's one of the best known companions to the Doctor. She traveled with two different incarnations, met at least four others, has a tin dog that talks and 2 spin-offs. She has some of the best/worst costumes too. Seriously there's a website devoted to her outfits.
And who can blame the Wardrobe Appreciation Society when the woman gets to dress like this:

Want that coat.

Wide collar warning!

When in Rome. Or Medieval England...
Louise Jameson as Leela, Warrior of the Sevateem. I once read a LJ comment that called this the outfit that shaped a generation of men.

And whose going to argue with THAT?
Kate O'Mara as The Rani. Definite article included.

Check out those pants.

I'm even fond of the shirt (I'm an 80s child, so sue me). I'm pretty sure Kate O'Mara is the only one who can pull it off though. Something about her bone structure...
Speaking of 80s children Sophie Aldred is Ace. Her standard dress is a black bomber jacket with more patches & pins then I can count. As her arc progresses her character evolves (with much prodding from the Doctor) and her clothing reflects that. This is a small selection of her range of outfits

Ace as we fondly remember her. Bomber jacket and attitude. All that's missing is some Nitro-9.

After traveling with the Doctor. Much more sophisticated.

Time hijinks. We never see Ace in this outfit, merely a painting of Ace in the outfit.

Err... possibly not a picture of Ace at all. It may be a promo shot of Sophie. It's pretty none the less.
From Old Who to New Who. The first of the Doctor's companions in the revived series, Rose Tyler (as played by Billie Pipper) has caused a lot of controversy (shipper wars *shudder*). But you can't deny she's pretty in pink.

I love this entire outfit. Scarf, pigtails, big earrings, (and though you can't see it) skirt, and boots. What's not to love.

An awesome sweatshirt that manages to be futuristic without really being out of place.
Martha Jones is not my fav. That said, she has some of the coolest jackets in the series.

Spiffy dinner jacket! i have no idea what episode this is from though. Torchwood maybe? Also: Freema you should not be allowed to wear your hair down. Always have it up in a spiky ponytail, I say.

Another instance of 'Want that coat'.
Does she need an introduction?!? Fine, this is Lucy Lawless as Xena.

I' up to season 5 of Xena Warrior Princess. Dissapointing, because I'm pretty sure this outfit is season 6. Can we say hot?
In a role I have never seen, Lucy Lawless as Number Three from BSG.

And Lucy Lawless contradicts the previous picture and proves that you DO NOT have to bare skin in order to be hot.
So I started watching X-Files in about the 6th season. I was finally considered old enough (by my father at least) to watch it. One of the first episodes I got to watch, First Person Shooter is without a doubt a favorite episode. Scully *owns* this episode.

Did I mention she gets to carry a big gun?

And save all the guys from the man-hunting AI? [/happy place]
I have yet to watch more than five minutes of Flashpoint. I am pretty sad about that. You see I grew up on Power Rangers, so Amy Jo Johnson has a special place in my heart. That said, I'll finsh this post with another gun toting female.

I think that rifle is *at least* as big as she is. not that that's hard. She's 5'2".

Proving that thigh holsters & flack jackets are sexy since '08.

Baseball hats & ponytails to!

did I mention she did the first season pregnant? no really! can't you tell?
Thanks for
