Title: Uprooted
Fandom: Elite
Characters: Mencia
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers through S6
Summary: Mencia's upended her life, left her home and her friends to return to the father she had thought she couldn't forgive, as the way of escaping punishment for her crime...which she's now found out she didn;t actually commit.
Mencia had never thought she’d end up speaking for her father; the whole time she’d been giving her speech on his behalf, she’d pictured the way Rebe would have looked at her if she could hear her. Mencia knew she and Rebe could never get back together, had known this from the very day Samuel had died and Rebe had punched her father in the face, and she doesn’t even know where Rebe is right now (Rebe had blocked her everywhere long since), but that had never stopped her from asking herself every day whether there could be a chance that Rebe would forgive her, would accept that Mencia had turned her back on her father.
But there had been no other way; since she had no memory of that night other than knowing she’d been in Patrick’s car, Mencia would have had no way of proving that she wasn’t the driver in Ivan’s hit and run. All it would have taken would have been for him to come round, identify her as the driver, and Mencia would have probably been sharing a cell with good old Dad anyway. Now she’s away from Madrid, in some Swiss backwater where no one knows them, having to watch Patrick pining over Ivan while knowing she’s the reason they’re never going to be together again. And back in Madrid Mencia had had friends, she’d had Isadora and Didac, Rocio, Sara, but here she hasn’t really bonded with anyone.
Mencia knows she shouldn’t keep scrolling through social media posts from back home, that she should focus on her new life now and forget about the old, but keeps scrolling anyway until one day a post catches her eye; it’s a news story where Ivan’s remembered the accident and says Sara was the one driving. As Mencia scrolls through the coverage, she sees that Sara has confessed once Ivan gave his statement, sees pictures of her walking into the police station.
She’d upended her life, left the place where she had friends, turned her back on her own feelings towards her father, and it had all been to escape from a crime she had never even committed.
