Title: Sorority
Fandom: The Wilds
Characters: Nora, Gretchen, Rachel
Rating: PG
Summary: Nora feels like she and Rachel have never been further apart.
Once when they were about eight, Rachel had screamed at Nora that she wished she didn’t have a twin.
Nora couldn’t even remember now what that had been about. But in the immediate moments after Quinn’s death, when she couldn’t help but think about Rachel’s comments about Quinn which had led Nora to break off the relationship, there had been moments where she’d remembered the incident and found herself wondering what it would have been like now if she hadn’t been Rachel’s twin.
Yet even though there had been a few times at the beginning where Nora had blamed Rachel, she also knew that she shouldn’t entirely blame her sister; Nora didn’t have to listen to her when Rachel talked about how weird Quinn was. And Nora also knows that even if they had still been together during the fraternity rush, there was nothing she could have done to save Quinn; from what she understood, fraternity pledges weren’t supposed to talk to outsiders about what they were being subjected to, so even if Nora had known anything about it, she wasn’t sure that she could have done anything to intervene.
It had helped Nora to have those conversations with Gretchen Klein, who had made her see that she shouldn’t hold her sister responsible for what happened; the patriarchal society that had created these fraternities in the first place was entirely to blame. In the moment of agreeing to be part of Gretchen’s experiment, of asking that Rachel be there with her, Nora had hoped that spending this time with Rachel would bring them back together again.
Yet as Nora watches Rachel from the monitors, knowing Rachel believes her dead, and no longer so sure that Gretchen will let them reunite, Nora feels like she and Rachel have never been further apart.
