Multifandom Ladycentric Reclist

I do a monthly reclist included in my media recap over at anothercoast.wordpress.com if you're interested in the full(er) list. For this selection I primarily went with true gen, femslash, and het that truly focused on the women. Hope you enjoy! (Note: I've tried to warn where prudent, but please also note any content warnings at the source.)

ADVENTURE TIME

gloss, Women Who Run With Whywolves (Adventure Time, Gen) - The queer hero epic you didn't know you desperately needed.

AMELIE

verity, a way of shutting my eyes (Amelie, gen): Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. This works in syncopation with the film, full of art and heart and breath.

A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE / GAME OF THRONES

redcandle17, Women (ASOIAF, Cersei/Brienne): A totally believable moment between the two, charged with sexuality and the pesky issue of gender in Westeros.
fallen_woman, idee fixe (Game of Thrones, Cersei/Jaime): A 50s admen AU featuring Brienne and some of the most believable incest ever. Also it is hot. Also it is perfectly in character.
mage_girl, From the Very First (Game of Thrones, Cersei/Jaime): I love thoughtful stories like this. It's rare enough to find stories that treat Cersei with care and keep her in character, but it's delightful to see the progression of her relationship with Jaime. (Childhood development of kink, hello!!)

BABY MAMA

impertinence, Thank You, Now Take Off Your Pants (Baby Mama, Kate/Angie): Though not new, this fic was new to me -- and pretty delightful. I love the voices!

CODE NAME VERITY

osprey_archer, Dream a Little Dream (Code Name Verity, Maddie/Julie) - Exact canon voices. This is the perfect mixture of pure joy and devastation.

COMMUNITY

beardsley, intermediate psychopharmacology (Community, Britta/Annie) - First-timey lady part sex with marijuana and PIRATE CATS.
Irony_Rocks, The Death of Thanksgiving (Community, Britta/Jeff, but mostly and essentially BRITTA) - 100% in character. Perfection. I actually don't know if I have the right words to tell you how much and how I like this.
explodinganyway,
Dinosaur Dreams (Community, Britta/evil!Britta) trigger warnings for violent sex and references to molestation and with that you probably can guess at what is happening here. explodinganyway does it to perfection.
thingswithwings, Momentum (Community, Abed/Troy/Annie) - Carefully negotiated scenes, kink, and working around ability and comfort. These are things I will read and re-read with joy even when I don't ship, really, any of the participants.
thingswithwings, Housewarming (Community, Abed/Troy/Annie) - And a slightly lighter and even longer take on the same triad living in a truly poly relationship. Wonderful must-read.
summerstorm, Make Me Call Again and myrifique's Make Me Call Again (the Tell Me What I Want remix)(Community, Britta/Michelle) - secret getting-together fic that is truly truly awesome no matter who's point of view it's from.
summerstorm, seconds to your elevator (Community, Britta/Michelle) - THIS ONE IS SO EROTIC YOU GUYS
summerstorm, I Don't Think We've Met (Community, Britta/Michelle) - Britta and Slater in a bar. Drunkenness ensues.
autoerratic, You Don't Know Why But You're Dying to Try (Community, Britta/Annie) - They-Are-Dating-But-Don't-Realize-It-And-All-I-Can-Say-About-This-Fic-Is-FUCK-YES

inlovewithnight, the girls with the stars in their eyes (Community, Britta/Annie) - I definitely have an accidental-dating kink. Because yes. All of the yes.
implicated2, Special Problems in Erotic Roleplay (Community, Annie/Troy/Abed) - There is a deeply special place in my heart for scene-negotiating fics.
pervinca, Introduction to Oscillating Leporidae (Community, Britta/Annie) - One benefit to having such (mostly) dedicated on-screen heterosexual characters is that fandom redily embraces the bisexual label. THIS IS AWESOME, DUDE. Also, file this story under awesome, sexy political porn.
gloss, Summer Practicum in Women's Studies (Community, Britta/Shirley) - Oh, what's that? You said my favorite writer just *happened* to write my favorite pairing? And she -- shocker -- didn't lay off on the criticism? Yeah, all of that. Why are you still reading this? Click, already!
Cottonstones, Your Heart is an Onion (Community, Britta/Jeff/Shirley) - This story is not for everyone. Okay. Um. It is for everyone who ships both Britta/Jeff and Britta/Shirley and accepts (while shunning) the totally problematic shit that comes with both of those pairings. And that is probably... me. And like, three other people? So this story is for those people! AND THOSE THREE PEOPLE WILL LOVE THIS FIC. BECAUSE THIS FIC IS AMAZING YOU GUYS.

CROSSOVERS

thankyouturtle, nerve and consequence (Alias/Gotham Central, Jessica Jones/Renee Montoya): This is a glimpse of the fic of my heart.

DC COMICS - BATWOMAN

marchingjaybird, Mask (Batwoman, Kate/Renee): Very nice.
marchingjaybird, The Sour Times (Batwoman, Kate/Renee): Exquisite and thoughtful and hard.

DC COMICS - GOTHAM CENTRAL

medie, Midnight Calls (Gotham Central, gen, Renee/Daria): A great missing scene-type fic that has everything down.

DON'T TRUST THE B IN APARTMENT 23

mazily, you think you call the shots (Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, Tall Slut No Panties/Strong Bowling Girl Who Talks A Lot) - my gift in femslash12, and a truly magnificent one!
dollsome, 2 become 1, or: these are totally normal roommate shenanigans (Don't Trust the B, Chloe/June): This reads like an episode. I actually have to keep reminding myself that it didn't happen.

DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS

prozacpark, We Alone Would Compel the Fates (Dragon Age, Morrigan/Anora): Okay, so it's not really femslash, but I'm PUTTING IT IN THERE because oh my god, SHIPPING IT.

FRINGE

such_heights, Field Trip (Fringe, Astrid): This line blew me away "Oh my god," Astrid says, but it's not as though her shock will help anyone, so she steadies herself and grabs her things. "I'm on my way." So succinctly summing up Astrid and setting the tone for a story from her point of view. And hello fictional narrative kinks. Hello ALL OF THEM.
jessalae, Fluid Parameters (Fringe, Altlivia/Altstrid)

HAPPY ENDINGS

gloss, Let your hand melt a hole in the frost (Happy Endings, Alex Kerkovich) - I have seen three episodes of this show, and I didn't love it. But you know what I did love? That it made my friend so damn happy that they built this world for Alex to live in and explore. That super heroes could live in this world, and that only Alex would know.

HOMESTUCK

kolamity, And I A Dream, Strangled (Homestuck, Redglare): I've never read much fic about the ancestors, but this is a fabulous and beautiful place to start.
playerProphet, Unraveling (Homestuck, Vriska/Kanaya) and the remix by nextian, A Thread Cut with A Carving Knife (the Sure as Light Remix) are both truly moving pieces that explore the relationship pre- and post-scratch between Kanaya and Vriska, that blending of pale and red, and complexities wound between them. The descriptions are luscious and bountiful, and the characterization pure.
gloss, halfway to human (Homestuck, Jane): I talk a little about what makes me love this so in the comments, but I'll mention the utter simplicity and wonder of a child's world and connection to raw adult topics like gender. Would that there were more parents like Dad, here.
arenoseAnima, You Left it Burning for Me (Homestuck, Rose/Roxy): I neglected to rec this when I read it, but this little reach-around incest story is dark and wonderful and sexy!
gloss, La Marseillaise (Homestuck, alpha!Jade/alpha!Rose): In the continuing saga of reccing everything that gloss writes ever and meaning it from the bottom of my heart, this beauty is an original take on the universe-revision post-Scratch. Rose is thoughtful, meaningful, and full of words. The kink here is roleplay, and it isn't done cheaply. gloss feels this world out through her characters and they dress up (and un-dress) in it, slowly peeling back the details so carefully placed.
overthetiber, Heroine (Homestuck, Calliope/Roxy) - MY HEART.

THE HUNGER GAMES

latenightcuppa, this world all gone to war (The Hunger Games, gen): I've never had any desire to read Hunger Games fic, partly because I knew there was little to know chance of truly vivacious femslash and femgen (of the variety we didn't already get from Katniss). This makes me want to reconsider. The portrait of Johanna is vivid and clear.

LUTHER

listedheart, Dark Paradise (Luther, gen): A stunningly dark ride into the abyss of Alice Morgan.

MAD MEN

fallen_woman, The Graduate (Mad Men, Joan/Peggy): I have a hard time reading/writing femslash in this fandom, but this fic gets the characterization (if not the situation) exactly right.
mswyrr, Another Working Day (Mad Men, Don/Peggy): I know I know, het. But this kind of subversive feminism really gets me in the right spot. Er. I should try not saying things that sound like porn. Short verion: I liked this, and I didn't expect to.
andibeth82, If I Were to Lose My Way (Mad Men, Gen) - Peggy and Joan, and not being strangers
HannaM, like the lazy ocean hugs the shore (Mad Men, Beth Dawes/Trudy Campbell) - BETH FEMSLASH.
orangesparks, the seas will split (Mad Men, Gen) - A lovely little rumination on mothers and daughters and the patterns we may try and fail to escape.

MARVEL COMICS - RUNAWAYS/YOUNG AVENGERS

pummelwhack, dear friends, you are angels and drunks (Runaways/Avengers Academy, Julie/Karolina)

MARVEL COMICS - THE X-MEN

heyjupiter, African Heads of State (X-Men Comics, Ororo): I really wasn't expecting to like this, as I've never connected with Ororo, nor have I read the arc this particular story is based on, however I was pretty blown away with the clarity with which she speaks and acts, walking through her overlapping worlds.

NEWSFLESH

Ladymordecai, Separation Anxiety (Newsflesh, George/Shaun): Oh god. This -- this is what I wanted from Feed. Definitely reading this in the early morning and sobbing. Absolutely beautiful and perfect addition to the canon.
mortalcity, Back from the Wars (Newsflesh, George/Shaun): A quiet, canon-compliant (pre-canon) piece about the relationship between George and Shaun. Nothing explicit, but wonderfully in character.
angelsaves, And the Greatest of These (Newsflesh, Buffy/Maggie) - actually succeeded in giving me Buffy/Maggie feels, which I wanted desperately to get from the books but totally didn't. Fills in some gaps and offers plenty of feeling and porns! I also love the infusion of religion -- the easy way it fits in with their queerness.

THE OFFICE

withpractice_ff, Sunday Morning TV (The Office, Karen/Pam): Possibly the only longfic KaPam in existence, which simultaneously makes me happy and sad. The progression from enemy to friend to lover feels natural and measured, and (as I always hope) Jim is treated sensibly and not vilified.
sophiahelix, Five Versions of Valentine's Day, 2007 (The Office, Pam/Various): Again, new to me, and as I was reading I was sure that I would hate it because the beginning sections are incredibly emotionally brutal and stark. The contrast serves to make a more dazzling conclusion. Wonderful.
furies, Begin to Rewrite Me Now. (The Office, Pam/Karen): This is an oldie that I'd forgotten about until trawling through AO3. So so good.

PARKS & RECREATION

perfectlystill, that something special that they are hunting (Parks & Recreation, gen): Hot damn. This look at Tammy Swanson II-before-she-was-Tammy-Swanson is almost unbelievable in its perfection.
weatheredlaw, meditations on art and paul (Parks & Recreation, Ann/Leslie): I'm probably exaggerating the slash here, but I loved this piece on the two of them, and the lengths Ann will go to care for Leslie.
portionsforfoxes, Evolution Takes Its Toll (Parks & Recreation, Ann/April): I love this piece. We rarely get a look at the mean side of Ann, and through April's eyes is the perfect way to do it. I love the attention to detail, to change, and the chances these characters get to fuck up.
thingswithwings, Concession (Parks & Recreation, Leslie/Jennifer)
Amy, Bloomington (Parks & Recreation, Ann/Lucy) - Story of my heart! I was hesitant to read an Ann/Lucy fic that I didn't write (cough) but this was everything I have been wanting this season. Queer Ann. Queer Ann with glimmers of hope and need and acknowledging herself and her queerness. And a happy ending! (And Lucy. Is utterly delightful here. So delightful.)
gloss, Heartbreak Jamboree (Parks & Recreation, Gen) - I needed to re-read this in November, and gloss was kind enough to upload it to the archive. It's like a warm hug around my heart.

PARKS & RECREATION RPF

lalejandra, limbs (NBC RPF, Aubry Plaza/Rashida Jones/Amy Poehler): GUH. JUST GUH.

SURI'S BURN BOOK

psychomachia, Harriet The Spy Has Nothing On Me (Suri's Burn Book, Gen)

TIPPING THE VELVET

lyryk, a boy like you (Tipping the Velvet, Nan/Flo) - A quick little rumination on gender and sex, the intersection between Nancy Astley and Nan King.

THE X-FILES

politic_x, Night Ride Across the Caucasus, Secret Bird, Six Keys (The X-Files, Scully/Reyes) - re-reading these was a nice pick-me-up in the pre-holiday doldrums. The delightful pieces of these are the ones that come from the author's life, pieces of queer history and authenticity that makes the sometimes disturbing and random setting make sense.

X-MEN FIRST CLASS

st_aurafina, The Persistence of Memory (X-Men First Class, Moira/Emma): Good god it's taken me forever to read this, but YOU SHOULD READ IT! A sequel to the film with lady slash and Bechdel passing and Black Widow and LADY SPIES!
