Day 7: fanart, Xena Warrior Princess - Gabrielle

Title: All grown-up

Summary: It's a long road for Gabby along the seasons, trailing beside Xena, but we know she eventually grows into her own.
Notes: Made rather quickly with Chinese ink, watercolour and a dash of gouache. The colours aren't perfect because the watercolour I used is from a set I've literally owned for... About 22 years now, lol.

Yes, the finale was devastating. For once in my life, I was happy that I read spoilers before seeing the final episode. I’m from Belgium, and back then, our TV channels were always one year (one season) behind in airing new episodes of a TV series in comparison with the US. I read on the fansites what happened in the finale and how shocked everyone was. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for everyone watching this episode blind, not aware of what was going to happen. I still can’t believe why they wrote such a thing, separating Xena and Gabrielle after six seasons where they constantly said they belonged together always :(

I get you. The general consensus is that spoilers are Always Very Bad but sometimes I think they can actually be helpful. I watched Xena many years after it initially aired so I also knew about the ending without having watched it yet and I think it was better that way, it prepared me for the shock. I still felt kind of betrayed by the show and upset at their choice so I can't imagine either what it must have been like to be among the fans who saw it first-hand, without knowing what they were getting into. There's a reason why we never talk about A Friend in Need, after all, lol... It was a terrible, terrible idea to end it that way, sheesh.

Indeed :) I know there are fans who consider Many Happy Returns as the series finale. What a beautiful ending that would have been, Xena and Gabrielle flying off in the sunset after Xena gifted Gabrielle a Sappho poem.

I'm one of those fans for sure. AFIN is like some random badfic AU, it's not canon at all in my mind, haha.
